Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, matching MS Dhoni’s record.
Former Indian opening batter Navjot Singh Sidhu, known for his witty one-liners, is all set to resume his commentary duties during the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sidhu has been roped in by IPL’s official television broadcast partner Star Sports for the season. He will be part of both English and Hindi commentary teams. In an interview with Star Sports ahead of the start of the season, Sidhu reserved high praise for India skipper Rohit Sharma, who will be playing under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy at Mumbai Indians this season.
India is set to participate in the T20 World Cup immediately after the IPL, and Sidhu has expressed his concerns about Rohit’s fitness. He believes that with age, one tends to slow down, and reflexes tend to deteriorate. Sidhu also cited Sehwag’s example, stating that his reflexes were not the same when he started wearing glasses.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) removed Rohit as captain and appointed Hardik as the new leader. Although MI traded Hardik from Gujarat Titans before the auction, the decision to replace Rohit with Hardik received a lot of backlash from MI fans.
Rohit has won the IPL title five times, making him the most successful captain alongside MS Dhoni. On the other hand, Hardik led GT to IPL glory in their debut season in 2022 and then led them to the final last season, where they lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). MI will face Hardik’s former team GT in their opening match of the upcoming season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
